A Land(e)scape
In the Tules is a personal documentary currently in production, focused on rethinking how we see Northern California and its changing landscapes. Using a two-pronged approach, I follow a path through the landscapes of contemporary California with my camera, while diving into the archives to explore how the visual experience of paintings and landscape photography helped create a historical understanding of the way land has been seen and used in “The West,” and unpacking how these vistas hide as much as they show us of the often violent forces that forged the region and continue at play.
